Nature Club Meeting

Two hands holding small world globe.

Wednesday, May 1, 2024 May 1, 2024 Crystal Springs Resort

We are all becoming more aware of the critical roles that pollinators play, both in ensuring our food supply and in the functioning of natural ecosystems. Pollinating insects improve or stabilize the yield of three-quarters of all crop types globally, and more than three-quarters of wild flowering plant species in temperate regions need pollination by animals like insects to develop their fruits and seeds fully. But our human-dominated landscapes generally make very poor homes for bees, butterflies, and the incredible array of other insects that keep our world green. Sharon Wander will show you how you can transform your little corner of Planet Earth into a welcoming haven for the pollinators we all depend on.

Sharon Wander is a partner with her husband, Wade, in Wander Ecological Consultants, through which they investigate wetlands, conduct surveys for Threatened and Endangered species, and perform other environmental work. She has long been an active New Jersey naturalist, interested in birds, reptiles, plants, and butterflies (as well as moths and other insects). She and Wade frequently lead field trips and present programs for the New Jersey Butterfly Club, of which both are past presidents. Their Fredon Township, NJ, garden has attracted a state-record 84 species of butterflies, and they have also recorded more than 1100 species of moths on their property. Sharon served on the 2015 committee that evaluated the population status of New Jersey butterflies for the state Endangered and Nongame Species Program.

Begins at 7pm in the Crystal Springs Clubhouse. Complimentary to all Social Members.
